Walking directions from Rock Cottage to Padstow

Put on your walking boots – adventure calls!

Fancy walking direct from the door?

Did you know you can walk direct from the front door of Rock Cottage to Padstow? It is between 2 to 3 miles across very quite country lanes, joining the Camel Trail at the very end before reaching Padstow.

The walk takes about 1 hour at a very leisurely pace.

My first tip is – ignore Google walking directions!! Google takes you on roads suitable for cars and takes much longer. My route uses a permitted footpath (on foot only, no bikes/bicycles) and is far more direct. There is an OS map to borrow in the cottage too but as there can be bullocks in the fields I would suggest sticking to the lanes unless you are an experienced rambler.

It’s a simple and easy walk

The Instructions!

If you look at the OS Map you are basically heading to Tregonce.

Firstly, head out of the Cottage towards the Ring O Bells pub and down the lefthand side lane. Keep walking through the countryside until you come to a junction with some cottages. If you go left you will come to the Pickwick Inn. You need to turn right! (Alternatively you can walk through the village on the main road and turn left into Trevance – not as scenic!)

Keep walking and turn left. Then when you come to the Farm, turn left again. Look out for this road sign – you are going in the correct direction!

Follow the lovely country lane down to the Camel Trail, enjoy the view on the way. Turn left on the Camel Trail and walk on to Padstow.

Don’t forget your 4 legged friends!

Dog friendly!

It’s a great walk to get some miles under your belt with your dog. Our dogs enjoy swimming in the River Camel once they get down to the River too.

Padstow is extremely dog friendly and dogs are welcomed in most cafes and pubs.

Have an amazing time exploring Padstow and enjoy being car free! If you don’t fancy the walk back then you can catch the bus from the car park near the quay right back to the Ring O Bells in the village. The bus allows dogs too!

Wine on the terrace? Yes please!

Such exciting news that non-essential retail can open from 12th April. Just one week away! It’s quite incredible that locally produced Cornish wine at Camel Valley Vineyard is considered “non-essential” but anyway……

Located near Bodmin and just a short detour from the Camel Trail cycle and walking route, you will find the peaceful and utterly delightful Camel Valley Vineyard. The vineyard has been family run since 1989 and produces world class, award winning wines.

Camel Valley have won awards for their English sparkling wine which is sold nationally in Waitrose, and in London at Fortnum’s and even overseas to Japan. Many people have enjoyed a glass of their fine sparkling wine, at say the Tate in London, and then felt compelled to come and see where the wine was made and really explore the wine making process.

The vineyard is open year round Monday to Friday including bank holidays for tours, wine tastings and most popular of all, their beautiful terrace where you can enjoy wine by the glass. Please note they are closed at the weekends and only allow guide dogs.

If you would like to explore the Camel Valley Vineyard then remember to book in advance. I strongly suggest keeping an eye on their Social Media as updates on their opening and booking procedures are regularly posted. At the time of writing, bookings are being taken from a Tuesday for the following week, on a week by week basis.
